The Blood of the Bear

A winter scene of Cumbrian hills and a lake with two crows drinking red wine spilled on the snow.
The book tells the story of Arthur, before he was king, and before he was Arthur.

This is the book that started me off. I had an idea packed away for a long while about writing a series of stories featuring an Arthurian Magnificent Seven.

I wanted to avoid a traditional retelling and write it as a comedy. Many of the expected characters are included, but just maybe not in the way that Geoffrey of Monmouth described them in the 12th Century.

Book Description

Before the Round Table... Before the Legend...

King Arthur Pendragon? Not by a long shot.

Meet Artos, a young shepherd with a sharp wit and a knack for trouble. In war-torn, fifth-century Britain, he's forced to flee his village after a deadly encounter with a soon-to-be son-in-law of the local tyrant. His escape leads him on a wild quest: finding Merlin, the legendary sorcerer rumored to be living in the woods...and slightly deranged.

But Merlin sees the spark in Artos. He recognizes him as the prophesied king, and together they embark on a hilarious (and slightly disastrous) adventure with an illustrious band of followers.

Think Magnificent Seven with a dash of Monty Python. Prepare for sword fights, powerful magic, and laugh-out-loud moments as Artos and his companions face off against raiders, a tribe of cannibals, and the ever-present threat of his former employer, the ruthless Lord Duncan MacForres.

This is the first adventure in Artos's journey. Get ready, because things are about to get legendary (and a little weird).
